Answer the following statements with reference to Modern periodic table and explain the reason of your answer.
- Name the monovalent negative element of Period-3
Ans.) The elements with a valence of 1, which can form one covalent bond with other elements are called monovalent elements. Monovalent elements of groupIII are Sodium and Chlorine etc.
- Which element from Si, P, S and Cl having maximum nuclear charge?
Ans.) The above elements belong to III period.In a period nuclear charge increase from left to right.Therefore, Cl have maximum nuclear charge.
- Which element from Be, Mg, Ca and Sr having maximum value of Ionization energy?
Ans.) The above elements belong to IIA group .As the ionization energy decreases top to bottom.So, Be has the maximum ionization energy. And Sr has minimum ionization energy.
Predict the period no. and atomic number of an element X having electronic configuration 2,8,8,2
Ans.) The element having electronic configuration 2,8,8,2 is the Calcium element.
It's period no is = 4
It's atomic number is: 2+8+8+2 = 20
