Interview

(Structured interview)

The interview is the most commonly used procedure in psychological assessment. Interviews provide an opportunity to ask people for their own descriptions of their problems.

Structured interviews, is a type of interview in which the clinician ask each patient a specific list of detailed questions for collecting information which is used in diagnostic decision. In this scenario the psychologist ask questions from a checklist so this is the structures interview type of assessment.

During the recruitment of fresh army cadets, aspiring candidates are asked to stay over-night on dormitories of army mess. Few psychologists disguise themselves as candidates and spend night with other candidates while all the time observing behaviours of young men.

Observational Procedures

 

Observation is a process in which a psychologist observes the candidate in different environment. The advantage of this technique is that candidate will behave naturally and he will not show an odd personality. The psychologist observing their abilities without letting them know either they are tested. In the interview there is a possible chance of that the candidate will show an odd personality and behave artificially. So the given scenario is Observational Procedure of assessment.

During a psychological assessment process a clinician after observing patient fills a questionnaire about his subject. In the questionnaire, questions about personality of patient are answered on a scale of 1 to 5response from 1 ("strongly disagree") to 5 ("strongly agree"). Rating Scale

A rating scale is a procedure in which the observer is asked to make judgments that place the person somewhere along a dimension. These are assessment tools, which are used before the treatment to assess changes in patient’s behavior after the treatment. In this scenario the psychologist ask the client to fill questions about personality of patient are answered on a scale of 1 to 5 response from 1 ("strongly disagree") to 5 ("strongly agree"). So this assessment is Rating Scale type of assessment.

In a psychological assessment test a psychologist presents his subjects a series of ambiguous pictures and asks them to interpret what they see. Then he presents them with some incomplete sentences and asks them to fill in the blanks. What is this method of personality assessment?

Projective Personality Test

Psychoanalytic personality theorists have developed several assessment measures known as projective tests. They include a variety of methods in which ambiguous stimuli, such as pictures of people, or things are presented to a person who is asked to describe what he or she sees. Test also consists of a series unfinished sentences that people are asked to complete, usually it is considered a good spring board to explore and pinpoint areas of an individual’s life that are problematic or conflicting.

In the given scenario a psychologist also ask his client to look at picture and half sentence and make a story and fill the blanks so this assessment is Projective Personality Test.
